Landscapes in Bloom: Organic Blending with Winsor & Newton Watercolors & Kristen Brown

Workshop Description: This project uses Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolours to create a landscape using a watercolour bloom technique, and is suitable for both beginner and advanced painters. Watercolour blooms are a captivating method of offering artists a dynamic and spontaneous way to create unique textures and patterns. This method involves applying wet paint to moist paper, allowing colors to blend organically. Mastering watercolor blooms enhances creativity, enabling artists to achieve expressive and visually stunning effects in their paintings. This project will also introduce Masking Fluid, which is a valuable tool in watercolour painting, as it allows artists to selectively preserve areas on paper, preventing them from absorbing paint and creating controlled highlights. All materials for this workshop are supplied, and attendees will receive fee Winsor & Newton Water Colour samples.

Artist Bio:
Kristen Brown is a San Francisco-based painter originally from Saskatchewan, Canada. She has been an arts educator for nearly 20 years and is currently an artist and representative for Liquitex and Winsor & Newton art materials. Her work explores the themes of dissociation, transience, memory, and truth. She has exhibited at the de Young Museum, San Francisco Arts Commission, Joyce Gordon Gallery, and CICA Museum in South Korea, among others. Kristen has received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation in Montreal. Kristen’s work has been featured in Fresh Paint Magazine (now Create Magazine), RELISH Magazine, Art Maze Magazine, and elsewhere. She holds a BFA in Studio Art from the University of Saskatchewan and an MFA in Painting from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
