Wes is an accomplished watercolor artist from Coeur D' Alene. He is an instructor at North Idaho College and provides occasional weekend classes at Spokane Art Supply. His classes cover watercolor, gouache, and drawing techniques.

Acrylic Painting - Sat, April 19th

Workshop Description: Learn how to use traditional and experimental painting tools and techniques to blend realism with abstraction.

 

Supply List

Subject Reference Materials: Photographs and magazine pictures of subjects having distinctive shapes.

Drawing Materials: Some blank typing paper and a soft pencil.

Painting Materials: One sheet of 30 by 40-inch cold press illustration board or cold press watercolor board A 17 by 24-inch piece of plywood (smooth on one side) or gator board. Tubes of transparent or semi-transparent red, blue, yellow acrylic paint, and black and white acrylic paint. A synthetic one-inch flat watercolor brush and a number 10 or 12 synthetic round watercolor brush. A one-inch flat stiff bristle oil painting brush and a round stiff bristle oil painting brush. A palette knife. A brayer roller. Plastic wrap. Newspaper. Spray bottle. Kitchen sponge. Rubbing alcohol. Old credit cards.

A Wide-Mouth Water Bucket. White, undivided plastic plate. One-inch Masking Tape. Paper Towels.

 

Paint Traditional & Experimental Watercolors - Sat, May 24th & 25th

Class Description: Learn to use traditional and experimental watercolor painting materials and techniques.

SUPPLY LIST
Subject Reference Materials: Bring photographs of subjects that interest you.
Drawing Materials: A No. 2 school pencil, eraser, an 8.5 by 11-inch sketchbook that can handle washes.Watercolor Paper: One full sheet (22 by 30 inches) of Arches or Fabriano all-cotton, 140 lb. cold press paper, and one 20 by 26-inch piece of white Yupo (plastic) paper. 
 Support Board: A plywood board measuring approximately 13 by 17 inches, smooth on one side.Brushes: A one-inch flat and a No. 8, 10, or 12 round watercolor brush. 
Other Tools: Brayers, sponges, old credit cards, stencils, toothbrushes, tissue, plastic wrap, spatulas, palette kiife. 
 Watercolor Paints: Artist quality tube paints of the following colors, or their equivalents: Hansa Yellow, Quinacridone Rose, and Ultramarine Blue and a tube of Titanium White Gouache. If you have other watercolor and gouache colors, bring them along.
Palette: A large, undivided white plastic or porcelain dinner plate or other white palette you own.Water Container: A wide-mouth container that holds at least a quart of water.One-Inch Masking Tape. Paper Towels. A Plastic Tablecloth

 

Mixed Media Painting - Sat, June 14th & 15th   
10am-4pm    $100.00

  Workshop Description: Explore designs of realistic and abstract subjects using a combination of media. Emphasis will be placed on experimentation.

Drawing Materials: A No. 2 school pencil, eraser, and 8.5 by 11 sketchbook.

Watercolor Paper: One full sheet (30 by 40 inch) medium or heavy weight cold press illustration board.

Brushes: A one inch flat and a No. 8, 10, or 12 round synthetic watercolor brush.

Painting Supplies: Watercolors, colored pencils, pastels, Inks, acrylics, other water-based media, tissue paper, and acrylic soft gel medium, palette knives, magazines, scissors, single edged razor blades.

Palette: A large white plastic or porcelain dinner plate or other white palette you own. Water Container: A wide mouth container that holds at least a quart of water. One-inch wide Masking Tape. Paper Towels. A Plastic Tablecloth. Vinyl Glove
